One Postdoctoral Position in Theoretical Quantum Optics at KIST

< P>Applications are invited for a postdoctoral fellow position in theoretical quantum optics and quantum information at the Spin Convergence Research Center, Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) in Seoul (Korea). The Spin Convergence Research Center has worldwide-recognized programs in the ‘conventional’ semiconductor spintronics, and is currently expanding its efforts to ‘quantum’ spintronic systems.

< P>Along this line, our research focuses on low-dimensional studies of ultracold atoms near nanophotonic structures, which provides a promising platform to investigate non-trivial quantum transports of light as well as the emergence of natural mode entanglement in strongly correlated spin systems. By and large, our research is at the multidisciplinary interface between quantum information science and quantum many body physics, with applications ranging from novel quantum devices for information processing to the quantum information-theoretic studies of strongly correlated spin systems.

< P>The proposed research is included in the KIST Global Research Laboratory (K-GRL) Project “Quantum Transport and Entanglement Behaviors in 1D Spin Arrays” (PI: Dr. Kyung Soo Choi). K-GRL actively collaborates with the Quantum Optics Group (PI: Prof. Jeff Kimble) at the Institute for Quantum Information and Matter (IQIM) of California Institute of Technology (Caltech). The successful applicant is expected to play a key role in this cutting-edge and stimulating consortium.

< P>Description: One post-doc position in theoretical quantum optics is opened

< P>- The position will focus on the theoretical developments of quantum architectures, quantum-state engineering, and quantum simulation. Specifically, the project is concerned with developing theoretical protocols with ultracold atoms confined by photonic crystal structures with exotic spin-coupling topology.

< P>- The general aim is to develop the toolbox for this approach, including cluster-state generation, quantum error correction, and exotic quantum transports (e.g., the formation of hard-core bosons). In parallel, we plan to investigate diverse surface physics using the trapped atoms, including for Casimir effect.

< P>- Successful applicant is expected to travel abroad for the collaboration with IQIM, Caltech.

< P>Application procedure: Inquiries and applications should be sent by email to Dr. Kyung Soo Choi (kyung114@kist.re.kr). Applications should include a detailed CV, a brief statement of research interests and two names of potential referees. The call will remain open until a suitable candidate is identified. Highly motivated candidates are strongly encourage to apply for one of the following fellowships: 대통령 Post-Doc 펠로우십, KIST 스타 Post-Doc 프로그램
